I am very rusty, and just getting my memory back(head injury), partially by playing games such as this. My question...what do you do when the computer cheats...i.e., takes a piece in mid-move ? It would have been a pretty sacrifice, as I was already a piece down, we were near the end of  the middle game, and I would have gotten a rook and at least one pawn for my bishop,my bishop was still moving...I didn't want to post this, but, I am sick and tired of computers that violate the basic rules.  What is my remedy ?  (or is there nothing to be done)   John

Are you asking if it's cheating to use a computer to suggest moves? If so, the answer is yes.

does you computer program actually violate the rules of chess?

Did the computer take a pawn en passant? Or did it move a piece, and suddenly you were missing a piece?

I don't believe that was the issue. The question concerns a computer making a move while the opponent is in mid-move. It seems to me to be more a matter of computer malfunction than one of computer cheating.

John,

Ive never known a computer to actually "cheat" in a chess game. Usually those bugs are worked out of engines very early on. Is it possible, like someone else mentioned, that the computer made an en-passant move? If you are unsure what that move is, you can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/En_passant . That is my best guess for what happened. If I'm wrong, please provide us with some more details and maybe we will be able to assist you.
