Is it possible to correct a topic title?

How can I correct the title of my previously posted topic, if I found out the mistake in it?

artfizz

You can't. (OH YES YOU CAN! See post #8). What you CAN do is delete your post - and that will delete the entire forum (I believe), if yours is the first post. NO, THAT FUNCTIONALITY CHANGED! YOUR COMMENT GETS REPLACED BY [Comment Deleted].

A useful facility - in the absence of being able to edit the title (other than by completely deleting the discussion and starting over) - would be the ability to add a subtitle. In the case of this discussion:

TITLE: why do patzers delude themselves that non-patzers are cheats?

SUBTITLE: whiner-patzers

I'm thinking that a subtitle is something you might add later on in the discussion to emphasise the essence. (And it would be neat to be able to edit it, of course!)

Ideally, the sub-title would act as a searchable keyword - but not be part of the URL to the topic (http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/forum-feature-i-would-like)

artfizz, thanks for your detailed answer, but I still don't know how to add a subtitle?

I like the subtitle idea;

Title: Best game of chess ever!
Subtitle: My game against Joe Bloe (864)

I'd skip some topics that way! It'd be nice to be shown on roll-over of a discussion topic too.

Unfortunately, Igrok_11_08, adding a subtitle is (currently) JUST AS IMPOSSIBLE as changing the title. It is merely an idea for a future facility. Sorry to have so cruelly raised your hopes.

Incidently, one reason why it is so hard to change the title is that pages of HTML are created using the title. Then they are indexed on the web (by Google and other search engines). If titles were constantly changing, search engines would end up with a whole bunch of dead links.

The title can be changed - but the URL remains the same.

The rollover would be a nice extra touch!

On a related note, to assist searching the forums, I tend to add a UNIQUE KEY PHRASE to some of my posts. For instance, I wrote about playing chess while travelling. The topic title was "When Worlds Collide": not very indicative of the content! However, if I do a forum search for: "chess on the coach", it locates this topic.

This does not work on Group Forum topics though (since they don't show up on your personal content list); you still can't change those titles.

kco

I see you managed to notice that artfizz. (from your little trip)Wink

Thank you artfizz! I already took your advice and changed the title in one of my posts.

You're welcome. pdela is the cat who figured out how to do it!
