My connection with chess.com (and only chess.com) is doing this constantly and nothing has helped whatsoever, so infuriating to watch my opponent timeout then it declares I abandoned the game 5 minutes ago.

That used to happen to me quite a lot. But I found a permanent fix, and it hasn't happened even once in over 2 years.
i think that this problem is due to a bad translation. In spanish "abandonar" can be "to abandon (to leave)" or "to resign (to give up, to surrender)". He confused his own abandonment with the surrender of the rival. So his rival didn't "win when he resigns."
