I am a Ubuntu Linux 10.04 user and the Java 6 plug-in doesn't work this site.  I have Firefox 3.6.7 and the lastest Java 6 plug-in. See screenshot below the post for more info.

I would like to know if any other Linux users are having the problems and a soution it.

Thanks

I assume you have sun jre (the real java?  You have to install this in the new Ubuntu by adding the repository.)  Ubuntu also comes with openjdk, which is the open source version of java.  OpenJDK is getting better, but it doesn't quite open up everything yet, so I suggest you go to the Synaptic Package Manager and uninstall openjdk and the icedtea plugin.  This will leave only the sun jre to open java apps.

Hope this helps!

To add the repository, type this line in your terminal-

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com lucid partner"

Use the quotes!

Then go to Synaptic and install sunjre and sunjre plugin.

Erik told me this: we have a java 1.5-compatible version coming out soon. that might help!

Okayyy...Nice to hear that. :)

If you follow the steps I gave you, you will be using java 6!

Steve, I have that, it works everywhere but chess.com.  I think this a multi-patfrom issue on the site.

Update:  Ubuntu users, jsut ditch Iced Tea.  It causes Java problems.

SteveM

Isn't that what I told you in the beginning?

Svetamodieifed

Yeah...but then I did trust you.

SteveM

cool ; )

Svetamodieifed

Bah, didn't.  Why do not I proof read?

SteveM

Still cool.  I would have done the same thing.  You did it right by checking into it.

Svetamodieifed

No problem.
