happens only in play against computer, live chess and chess online are OK.

java installed, can't see chessboard

I am a new member, I want to play against the computer, I have downloaded Java as instructed. Still can't see chessboard, only little red x in upper left hand corner. I have turned off my pop up blocker. I can see the chessboard for online games and live games. Any suggestions?
