Level 2 Computer completely unbeatable?

I am somewhat new to chess. I definitely know all of the moves and mechanics. I have no clue how to use them or think ahead. My chess ELO is always < 500. The only way I tend to win is an opponent forfeiting. The level 1 AI deliberately loses/blunders and you can beat it 100% guaranteed. Anything above that I lose to. How can I improve when anyone/any computer can think any # of steps ahead and appear to be an absolute grandmaster, in addition to chess's lack of a learning curve?

Sir... This isn't time to brag. Can you please offer advice on how I can learn to think ahead at all?
