That isn't totally correct. You can join one specific group, play in the scheduled tourneys for that group, and those games will be rated here and under their Online Blitz and Online Quick rating pools, depending on the time control.
None of your other games here impact that and none of your Over-the-board ratings get changed; though, if you are otherwise unrated in one of the Online US Chess ratings can be used to seed the initial rating formula, once you play in at least one of those games.
You would need to fill out the authentication form in the News of the US Chess group, then request to join. The USCF verify those forms once most weekdays and once verified you will be able to play in the events.

Ive recently become a member of the USCF, and they tell me my games here on Chess.com can count toward my official rating. I dont see anywhere in 'edit profile' to enter my pin, so how do I link my profiles/accounts?
