It shows you how strong your connection is. Green is good, red is bad.
If you mouse over it, a message will appear telling you how good the connection is.

Ok, this is really bugging me and I can't find any info on it in a forum search or anywhere else, so here it is. In Live Chess, each player has a little box/bar to the right of their name. Sometimes it's red, orange/yellow or green. What is that box/bar and what does it mean?? Instantgreen
