and you can usually find a blitz game at the International House Cafe at the top of the UC Berkeley campus on Bancroft Street, as well.

There are always people playing chess at the Lakeshore Starbucks.

Hey I know this thread is old, but apparently people play at "It's Your Move Games and Hobbies" at 4920 Telegraph on Sundays from 3 pm to 7 pm.

Also, I'm looking for people to play in Oakland, I live near Lake Merritt.

I have been playing chess at Cafe Trieste in Oakland. About a year ago there were several of us, but now it's only Vladimir and me. I'm 78. I will not travel to Lakeshore and search for a parking place. Nor to any of the other spots mentioned above, for the same reason. I have a disabled card. I park in Piedmont Plaza by the cafe, one minute from my home. Plenty of parking. I like to play in the mornings. I absolutely don't care whether I win or lose: I love the game.
