Losing Rated Games due to Server Problems

If you're winning and the server crashes? I was +6 and it crashed, Have asked for rating. Do you think they'll give it?

If it crashed, all games are aborted. And even if not, in 10 games, your rating will be equal to what it should have been anyway.

It was yesterday. Must have been server because it said game abandoned and neither I nor my opponent lost rating. 45 mins game owch

So you asked for your rating back in a game where you lost no points? You really need to get your story straight.

You having an issue reading? I didn't say I lost rating, I said I was +6 and it crashed.

It's sorted anyway

You said you had asked for rating, I assumed it was because you lost some. If you're asking for rating for a game you didn't win, that's even more ridiculous.

I've had this happen to me 3 times in the last week, considering how commercialized this site is they would have the money to maintain their servers. If it keeps happening, I don't feel like I have reason to keep using the site, let alone paying for their services.

well something like this basically happened to me. So my opponent disconnected when i had mate in 4 and the website did not show me a timer until i would instantly win like it usually does. Instead, I waited until time out and tried to start a new game but it would not let me because apparently I was still playing the game that my opponent timed out in. So I closed the tab and opened it again and the site counted as I lost my resignation even though I never didnt and I never got off the site long enough for me to lose by game abandonment; and don't forget, I should have won by timeout or them abandoning the game. So basically I won but they disconnected and chess.com somehow handed them the win

That sounds like you were the one who disconnected and your browser didn't get the memo.

Even after 2 years still the server randomly disconnects, they should make it possible to continue the game where you left of if both parties agree, or at least don't score such games.

Silly amount of disconnects recently and quite often at a inopportune momment. I do think that the disconnects from a winning position stick in the mind more than others.

Ive given up worrying about rating and just playing 5 min games as quickly as possible just to see whats possible at speed.

Can start rebuilding rating when new servers up and running properly.

I use to work on mainframes so understand the issues but I do know that banks and similar would not allow this mant outages.

Hope its sorted quickly

So true … I am fed up of loosing games due to server issue… I worked really hard to reach 997 and due to so many server issues my rating has dropped to like 850 or so.. they really need to fix it.. I hope someone will read these posts and consider all our feedbacks..

First of all, https://www.chess.com/blog/CHESScom/chess-is-booming-and-our-servers-are-struggling

Secondly, your rating isn't dropping because of the server issues. Everyone is experiencing them, your opponents too. You've probably just been playing poorly. Keep going and it will go back up again.

No. Are you being paid to advertise chess.com? They lost because of server issues. Use Lichess if you're experiencing issues.

I agree.

Chess.com is unusable and they should be issuing refunds for paying members.

It's a joke.

No, I actually use my brain, unlike most people in this thread who can't even understand the simplest of points.

You're wrong. Admit it. People are allowed to complain about the site being down. Nobody asked you to trash on their abilities for no reason.

I never said they weren't allowed to complain, which is why I'm linking them to the explanation.
I didn't trash their abilities even once; I explained the very simple fact that people will play poorly from time to time, myself included.

Stop being belligerent and actually read what was said.

Is there a way you can report a loss through this? Just happened to me, very annoying

As far as I'm aware, there haven't been recent server issues.

You could always open a ticket with support and ask.

Okay, thanks! I mean the game just dropped out and then I got told I abandoned the game while I was watching the time tick down. I wasn't anywhere that I would expect the internet to drop out so I assume it wasn't on my side. I will see! Thanks happy.png
