I was playing right along, in fact winning the match.  Suddenly it just said i lost due to time. what does this mean???

It means that you took too long, so you lost. If you would care to share helpful details, such as which game it was, then I could be more specific.

so this is the rundown on the game info... then like i just lost. i have no idea lol.  I am brand new to this site, got on like a half hour ago

it asked me the initial time, i had 30 minutes put in there.  Is this the time of the overall game?  I have to finish in 30 minutes?  How should i do it the next time? Thanks

so that still applies even if i have to wait for the other guy to take his turns?

Look just below the board and you will see your time displayed. This is how much time you have left. It stops when you are waiting for your opponent to move.
