Lowest rating for beginners

What's the lowest rating assigned to a new member? When I signed up to chess.com I joined as a beginner, which I wasn't really, but I wanted to see how much I could learn by starting from scratch. I just now went back to see the first game I played, which was a 10 minute game, and my rating was 481. Now, my brother just signed up a few weeks ago as as intermediate and his assigned rating is 800. So what was my assigned rating when I began that on my first game, which I lost, was 481? I'm not complaining, just curious.

New to chess = 400
Beginner = 800
Intermediate = 1200
Advanced = 1600
Expert = 2000
Of course your true rating will be found out as you play more games and your rating deviation (RD) in that time control decreases

"New to chess," yes, that's what I joined as, and 400 is what I thought would have been assigned at that level, so where did the extra 81 come from after my first game? See what I mean? It seems rather weird.
