Sorry buddy, I don't trust anyone who says the word "blessed" as often as you do.
My 5yr old is smarter than me!
I think the "teach-openings-early" people and the "anti-teach-openings-early" people are both right:
Start by teaching the basic opening principles (if she hasn't already begun figuring them out): control the center, develop your pieces, etc. (I don't always teach "Knights before Bishops" because there are openings when this doesn't apply) I pretty much never get the chance to teach chess, but when I do I say, "Think of the opening as a race to see who can be first to get their pieces off the back row and into the action! (I don't use the word "rank" because many people only know the word "rank" as it relates to the military chain of command.)
Once she's been playing for a little while and is familiar with the rules and such, you can try teaching her some basic openings, although it's important to teach the basic opening principles first so that she can do well when she inevitably faces an opening she's never seen before (a given unless she has the whole ECO memorized!).

Well said, thank you.
I wouldn't be surprised if they found a dozen bodies chopped up in your basement, bucko.
