Hi for those of us who use high contrast a lot to shield light out of our eyes from screens...how can we use chess.com???

Cheers

Thanks for your reply.

I dont wish to modify my pc but to have chess.com allow a chess setting that can show with windows when High Contrast is on, Windows is used by 86% of the population.

None of the setting enable this to be used.

it is a very easy software addition to make but it can only be done opn chess.com

This is a similar situation to your reply:

A guy is walking past a big wooden fence at the insane asylum and he hears all the residents inside chanting, “Thirteen! Thirteen! Thirteen!

Curious, he looks through a hole in the fence.

Someone pokes him in the eye. Everyone inside chants: “Fourteen! Fourteen! Fourteen!"

Thankyou.

By your reasoning you wouod burn to death because noone but a single person had shouted  "Fire!" before; you would take no action until more people shouted.

This means you have a death wish and your judgement is ubiquitously suspect.

If you have higher priorities than allowing users to play chess I question your wisdom as well as your state of mind.

But I well undwerstand you have lists of improvement for the site and are overwhelmed by having to do them.

stubborn_d0nkey

"Bashing" people with poor analogies will get you nowhere, especially when they have something constructive to say.

If only one member out of 4 million has a problem, it will have a very low priority, that is obvious. If more people have the same problem then the priority will rise. What he said was constructive, and your anology was just horrible.

Also, you could explain what exactly is your problem with chess.com. You are obviously able to use the forums, so is the problem with the chess board(or perhaps you are just trying to troll)?

Have you tried different board colors/different themes http://www.chess.com/home/themes.html?

A better explanation of a problem will always increase the likelihood of getting proper help.

hleuk2

Apologies, i play chess like war and only seem to have one gear of dialoge= attack!

Yes of course I've tried various colours/options/variatons.

If you can get 1 million members so quickly, why are on;y 5000 on line and I have to wait 2 mins for a game?

hleuk2

Thankyou. I dont find it helpful you calling me a troll and suggesting only 1 in 4 million would like a screen that is usable in high contrast.

I can see chess.com players in the markets: they have buklging red eyes and bump into the fruit stalls while they fumble for handkerchiefs.

It may surprize you i have indeed tried different combinations and struggled more than enough before i raised a thread for assistance.

I'd be pleased to state what my problem is wioth chess.com

You dont have software installed that enables a game to be played in high constrast.

If one selects for that on our own machines, it shows a black and white board, with no demarcation for squares.

It is unplayable.

It may assist if you test it empirically as newtonian science is sometimes superior to donkey noises, although I see you have incoprporated that into your name, so at least you are consistant.

If someone tells me something needs improving in my business i dont take it as a personal insult and throw him out of my shops, I am most greatful, search for what he means without a thread of communications, and often reward him with free schnitzels and pancakeas.

Young mean search for glory, but people my age search for their socks and teeth. While I still have a little eyesight left I should like to play a little more chess and finish writing my paper on Quantum Archaeology.

Kasparov plays on this site and so do 4 presidents.

All of them now have macular degeneration because of this issue.

hleuk2

Thankyou I jave no wish to jump off a cliff with my head in that position to the rest of my body.

Nor would it solve reasonable question of being able o play chess.com in HIGH CONTRAST.

'High contrast' is not something mystical. It is easy to install a facility that allows me to use high contrast on my own machine so that the screen is not mostly white light which makes dry eyes or has no chess board marked out.

I may inded die soon, although it is unlikely I'll stay dead, but intend not to be optically bludgeoned to death by chess.com's lack of demarcation lines when I PUT MY MACHIE IN HIGH CONTRAST.

You have great pizza in California and best high tech in the world please add software to the site so that few people with remaining sight can use chess.com in High Contrast...

TheCarnage

You are too funny eldras. What do you mean by high contrast?

hleuk2

Have you typed 'Windows High Contrast' into Google or other mechanical libararian?

Is not me saying questions are damned silly.

Hi eldras,

I found what you said to be true, using Internet Explorer. Have you tried using another web browser like Firefox?  It seems to work for me, assuming I changed the settings correctly. :)

stubborn_d0nkey

Lol,your reply is too funny, especially since its the second time you are replying to my post, 4 months after the first reply! Hillarious!

hleuk2

Thankyou.

i go at a slower pace than you, but you will never catch up to me.

It is technically possible.  However since you seem to be the only one having this problem, it is not going to happen unless you do it for yourself.  You seem be be willing to spend lots of time writing long diatribes about it; so perhaps you can better spend that time figuring out how to do it for yourself.  Then everyone will be happy.

hleuk2

Thankyou. Everyone will not be happy if I take such action. Nor can I do it for myslef as chess.com needfs to alter its software.

The fact that I seem to you to be the only one having this problem while plausible is unlikely.

Also if there is a problem or better facility it could be addressed for an improved site.

Being in a minirity of one which is not possible on this issue, does not invalidate  my request for HIGH CONTRAST to be enabled in your software.

I feel you are a genius and can do it to proving your point.

Are you saying that in Firefox you can have High Contrast on and see the chess pieces AND the board?

Hi Eldras, yes, in Internet Explorer, just as you noticed, I couldn't see the board in High Contrast. But in Firefox, I was able to see the board and the pieces using High Contrast Black #7 on a windows 7 PC. Does that help?

hleuk2
