Opponent's account closed / banned?

Good day,

I'm currently playing member dutch82 and can see in our match that he's on vacation time. Ok, so that's normal.

However, I went to look at his profile but when doing so it takes me to the page saying that his account has been closed.

Unless I'm missing it, I do not see him on the cheaters list so I'm presuming that either:

A) His account is in fact closed*

B) That this is a technical error becaue he is on holiday.

C) He has intentionally put himself on vacation before closing his account to delay the victory points, for some reason or another (weird because I think he could have won that match)

If it is closed by the member, do I really have to wait a whole month (his allowed vacation time) for the match to be won on time or does anyone know if there's a way to claim the points now?

Likewise, if he's been banned, do I need to wait the whole month to win on time or is there an technical error somewhere along the line?

Thanks for your consideration.

Well he wasn't banned.

I wish they would do something about the vacation time, there's far too much and it can be used too regularly to the point where it's just a clock extension. Every tournament is held up by a month by people going on two months vacation, even if they don't affect progress into the next round.

Kohai, is it something that has been considered, progressing tournaments with games in progress that can't affect the outcome?

E.g. 19th chess.com tournament 1400-1600, last two games in group 174, neither player can progress and they are taking their time over games where the results are obvious.

Avatar of kohai

You mean they are taking their time in their games?

Avatar of Scottrf

The results were clear 6 weeks ago, one is a dead draw the other is an easy win, and rather than resign/agree to a draw the games are continuing holding up the tournament. In another tournament someone had 2 months vacation when his game was lost, but I suppose not technically breaking any rules so nothing anyone can do.

But more importantly none of these games could affect the winner of the group, so I don't see why it can't progress.

It should be done that if it is not decisive game, others should continue...

You're my hero Kohai.

I was told  if i didn't like people running me out of time in a dead draw in live chess then i should play with an increment as the clock is part of the game well if you don't like people using their vacation time then maybe you should play in tournaments that don't offer it.

Avatar of Scottrf

But I do like people using their vacation time if they need to and aren't just deliberately wasting everyone's time, just not holding up a tournament when the results of their game aren't relevant.

Hey guys, thanks a lot for your replies, and thanks, kohai, for removing his vacation time.

So it appears he just closed his account and left it on vacation time out of spite beforehand?

Charming.

Ah well.. 3hrs to go and I'll nab another 19 points. Have to say, though, I don't feel I earned them this time, but then again it seems a bit crappy to mess people around like that, so maybe he thought he was going to lose or wotnot.

Anyway, I'm grateful for your replies & help folks. Hope you have some good matches tonight.

I've only played one tournie so far, but that's especially crappy to abuse the time in a tournie because several other players are held up.

I think this is the first time someone I've played has done this, and it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Bah.. miserable gits ;)

Kohai, if you're still reading this, is it possible for you to do the same thing with member name "VanillaKnightPOC" . Thanks.
