What happens to a game in progress if the one of the player's account has been closed?

Tournament games end immediately. Others time out.

Having just started today and been blocked for some unknown reason I would like to know how I get back on. I have seen that I can play fairplay but cannot find it and can find no way to access and speak to the moderator, Can anyone help?

There should be a link to contact support. If you absolutely did not do these actions.

  • intentionally disconnect during games
  • stall to make opponents wait unnecessarily
  • frivolously abort games because they don't want to play black, etc. (Note that we have now implemented a limit on the frequency with which users may abort games; please Abort only when necessary. ...)

Really? I didn't know that. Are they treated as though the offender resigned at that moment?

@MARTELL220669: If you ever find yourself in a losing position during a game, or you're ever in a situation where you can't or just don't want to play anymore, make sure you don't simply close your browser, disconnect, or just quit. You must resign all such games. Best of luck in all your chess games!

Ah. I didn't see this until after I posted.

If you are White, the site would count that as you aborting.

http://blog.chess.com/webmaster/live-chess-updates-fair-play--tournaments

"We automated aborts for games where nobody moves at the start! Even if you've lost your ability to abort, you shouldn't have to resign if you get caught in a game where the other guy has decided to walk away. Each player has 15-20 seconds to make their first move in the game. If no move is made, the server will abort the game. This impacts the Fair Play record for the player who fails to move. (So it's better to wait than to impatiently hit the Abort button yourself.) "

The exact instant the resignations occur I do not know.

You can view the OPs opponent for an example.  http://www.chess.com/echess/profile/AlekhineDef?show_all_current=1

All the tournament games are resigned. The other games are not. The player cannot log in so all games time out. On one prior occasion of this kind auto-timeout protection had to be manually fixed.

Just a fact.

I started playing live with the Android app. Sometimes something happens and a game does not start - no first move from the opponent's side. Only aborts help.
