So what is this disclaimer trying to say? That I have to trust Chess.com along with them? I am just wondering how safe I should feel doing this, I am not one to put my credit card information on the internet but I would really like to help this site out. I thought at first that you might accept paypal, and that might have been a little easier. Anyways, can someone please help me gain some kind of understanding about how this works and why I should trust this site with my personal information.

We use Authorize.net as the payment gateway, which along with verisign (now owned by PayPal) is the largest online payment gateway online. Additionally, we use FirstData for merchant processing which is one of the biggest online merchants. Finally, everything is done using 128bit SSL from Thawte - the second largest SSL company out there. And our servers are hyper-protected with firewalls, encryption, and the best darn server adming on the planet (Igor!). In addition to that we aren't a huge site like Amazon or something that is constantly being attacked - we aren't on the radar screen. :)

If you don't feel safe paying on Chess.com then you shouldn't feel safe paying ANYWHERE online!

And yes, if you prefer, you can use PayPal.

Finally, the DISCLAIMER from Authorize.net is their way of covering their ____. :) They are a gateway, and all they are saying is "Chess.com is legit, but we are not liable."

Oh, I am so sorry... I didn't even scroll down that page to see that.

Maybe someone should post that somewhere more obvious for dumb kids like me. Not everyone that plays chess is a genius.

Oh, and thank Erik for your input. I will be signing up here in a little bit. I was just unsure of how this worked. I am just debating if I want to use paypal or not.

It takes only a few minutes to create one. It's a comfortable payment method for online shopping so you don't have to spam your credit card details to every shop and they have a trustworthy anti-fraud system.
