How exactly do I use PGN? I tried and it would not recognize files from chess.com.

Hi Richard,

Ok so lets say your using the "insert position or game" into a blog or forum.

you want one of your games so you will go to your public profile which is located here : http://www.chess.com/members/view/RichardMAbrams

you then click on "My Live Chess" or "My Online Chess" depending on where your game was played.

Next, click on "view game Archeive"

Find the game you want and click "View"

Then on the right hand side of the page by the chat/details etc, click "Get PGN"

This will download the file.

You then need to open this file using a text editor such as notepad, so right click the file and select "open with.." then select notepad (if your using a Windows OS)

copy all the text in the file, then go back to chess.com and in the "insert Game" in your ie Blog, paste the code in the prompted box and select your desired settings, then Select "Insert Game"

Thats it your all set :D,

The main thing to remember is that you need to open that file with a text editor and copy the text, unless your importing it to an engine such as Chessmaster or fritz, then you can import the actual PGN file.

Hope this helps

Regards

You need a database or a program that can read pgn files. E.g. chessbase

You can download a free light version from:

http://www.chessbase.com/download/index.asp

but surely the possibilities are restricted ...
