Piece moved by itself

I was playing a game, and my queen was directly in danger. I was planning to move her out of danger, but instead, when my turn came, my DS bishop moved itself to capture a totally unimportant pawn, thus losing me my queen and the game. Why are pieces moving on their own, and why is the service allowing this kind of blatantly stolen game? I refuse to let my rating be smashed by what is either cheating or a horrid bug.

Hmm. Never heard of that problem.

Are you using the website or one of the apps?

If you have premoves turned on, it sounds like an accidental premove.

Just had this happen to me in a Daily game where there are no pre-moves. Halfway through the game I logged on to see that apparently I had moved my queen to an empty square covered by 2 different pieces and opponent captures for free. Totally bizarre.

If you don't have move confirmation on, it could have been an accidental move.

It's happens to me to today. I used the app. It happens on a daily game!

I guess your cursor was on the queen and when you touched the mouse to make your move, it might have happened like that!

in my experience, this has happened many times, and the "random move without cause" has never happened.

This just happened to me. It was as if I had premoved but I’m certain I didn’t. Really strange.

Something similar happened recently with a move on vote chess. I figured it was some feature I didn't understand, but yeah... I went to make a move and a bishop just decided for itself.

This just happened to me. I turned on my iPad, hit the app and a rook moved on it’s own. The timer said I made the move 8hrs previously, which would have been remarkable as I was asleep. I’m playing daily chess and don’t think I have the option of a pre move. I can’t see how I could have done this inadvertently.

Probably playing Hans

Happens to me on the mobile app, nothing near my screen and no pre moves and sometimes ill watch my piece move for me... only experienced this when playing bots so far. still weird

Happens to me all the time now when playing the robots. Trying to come up with some consistency on why this is happening but all I've been able to determine is that it always happens on the iOS app I play on and it's after I go to explorer. Happening with moltiple bots. Makes playing these games kinda useless at this point...

There's a known issue with that on the iOS app. Until it's fixed, not using the Explorer will keep it from happening.

4.1.2 is being released, which may have a fix for that, though I'm not sure.

Thanks so much for the quick response, I'll keep an eye out for the fix!

Happened to me today for the third time in a year.  Using Chrome on i0s Ventura 13.1.

During 10 minutes games.

This literally happened to me in daily chess. I JUST got a royal fork, and I don't know if my opponent cheated or not but somehow my knight moved to take the rook. There are no premoves in daily chess, and i have confirmations on, and the time frame it said the move was at there was no possible way i could've played it. Is this a bug or a hack? Either way this is extremely annoying and needs to be fixed.

I think it’s either a bug or someone in your house played the move or you didn’t remember you made the move. If I could hack chess.com’s server and control my opponent’s move, I would rather hack something else more worthwhile.
