Quitting the site due to "bad sportsmanship" restriction.

I have had it - I quit!

I aborted about 3 games and missed a 4th one because it was taking so long to come up and I momentarily went to a different tab (it was counted as a loss btw). Supposedly that was enough for a massive "bad sportsmanship" ban.

So get this - not only is my account restricted, now they are forcing me to play a standard game to get it back. LOL wow. I NEVER play standard over the internet, I just don't. What am I some sort of monkey you think you can get me to do what you want? I have never experienced an internet site trying to force me to actively do something just to use their site. I will never play standard on this website and if I did I would cheat every time just so I can play blitz.

I think in this case "standard" doesn't refer to a time control. It just means regular non-variant chess. (Chess.com used to call time controls over 10 minutes "standard". They changed that to "rapid" several years ago.)

You should be able to still play blitz.

However, there is a bug that is preventing you from doing that.

It has been reported.

Your account is restricted for violations of our Sportsmanship Policy. You may directly challenge Friends, or create rated, open challenges using standard time-controls. This restriction will be removed automatically as you play more games with good sportsmanship.

It's ridiculous!

Lagomorph

Just leave.

Or get yourself a proper internet connection.

I aborted some games as my poor internet connection meant i was seen to be abandoning games and that was costing me ratings points, so if i could see obvious connection issues i would abort to avoid being accused of abandoning, now im severly restricted and can hardly get a game....Whatever the rules are chess.com need to realise that sportsmanship is not purely technical rules it is also in a spirit of fairness and common sense, where there is no obvious intent to prosper by breaking the rules the penalty should be minor and not harsh, in many ways chess.com is a good site but if they cannot be proportionate and fair i will leave and find a chess site who is proportionate and fair.

You are only supposed to abort if you started a game by mistake.

At any rate, there is a bug now that is restricting people who abort from playing at all.  It is being worked and will reportedly be fixed soon.

You are right, I can't play any games long (standard?) time or not, despite their message.

this bug is seriously ruining the fun of this site, i have witnessed much worse sportsmanship and because my browser wouldnt load the board i now cannot play, i thought i was doing the right thing aborting a game i cannot play due to browser problem but now i cant play any games unless someone challanges me, this should be a top priority to the admin

I don't know the specifics, but I think that Live server process has to be updated to fix the problem and they likely have other code changes, along with the bug fix, that has to be fully tested before being deployed. No sense in fixing one bug and creating others.

So was it fixed?
