Rating - huh?

Hello, first post so...well, you know

My mate and I both signed up here and atm we only play each other in a sort of ongoing best of x. We've played 6 games so far and I've won 4, the first 4 in fact. He has won the last 2.

So I have won twice as many games as him and yet my rating is 1148 and his is 1252.

The question is...why?

Thanks

two factors, and i am not up on the formulas, so i wont spout that to you.  it is on the site somewhere.

first, at first your rating changes rapidly to try to quickly find where you belong.

second, the higher your opponent is rated the more points you gain or lose.  so, if you win for and you rating goes up, his down, the difference is higher.  so when he beats you lose more and he gains more.

OK, so a David/Goliath thing - no great cred for Goliath winning because it's expected

Still feels odd to be winning 4-2 and yet rated lower...oh well

when he lost the first one he was 1450 and his friend 950, so big shift there.

With the added complication that two players Dave and David with the SAME titchy rating, pitted against two opponents Goliath and Giloath both with rating phwoar, won't necessarily get the same number points for winning. The complex rating formula (see how-do-ratings-work) depends not only on the relative strength of the protagonists but also on their previous slinging records.
