rating problem

I've just won a game against a higher rated opponent on time but my rating hasn't changed to reflect this. The game id's 42273842. Am I misunderstanding the rating system?

You have to play through at least 4 moves for a game to count.

thanks for that. sounds pretty reasonable to me

ive never thought it truely right myself, agreed, you should not get points for a game that you have hardly moved in but i think the person you are playing should be docked the points for a loss, if you don't want to play the game resign or don't move at all! once you have made a move you should get docked for a loss if you time out.

I'm not even sure that the number of moves made is relevant. A few weeks ago my opponent timed out after 14 moves in a game where I was getting taken apart and my rating leapt 23 points. So I ended up with a rather inflated rating which really didn't reflect my standard at the time. But I've no idea how to deal with this situation fairly. Perhaps just penalise the player who times out?

These things work themselves out.  23 points really doesn't make that much difference in my mind as far as ratings go, so IMO the system used is adequate.  I've lost several games on time in which I was winning, but my rating always bounces back.
