Is it possible to have our ratings appear with our name and other info on the forums?  When there is a discussion on chess it is very helpful to know the rating of the person whose post you are reading, but it is time consuming to have to continually keep looking them up.

hondoham

Bill you are overrated by about 4000 points

hahah. well, we can do that. and perhaps we will in the future. however, soon, many people may have live chess ratings too. which do we then show. or they only use tactics trainer, or chess mentor. which rating? :)

perhaps all the different ratings can be shown, there is plenty of unused space between the location and member points. or there could just be an option to pick what rating you want shown.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a live chess rating?
erik

There is an old adage that even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile. If you wish to choose which person to read based on a rating, you will miss out on the search for true knowledge. Some people mastered Nimzo-Indian but have a weakness on QGD. Others like this or that. Ratings do not reflect knowledge of specifics only on their ability to adapt. If a generation spends all their time memorizing the Dragon Variant, and they play only people who use the Dragon, what will their rating be????

I get it. So live chess will basically give you more options on the length of game you would want to play.

I'm not sure if we should put that much emphasis on ratings. I like to think that anyone is possible of giving good advice.

I can't say that I disagree, I just want to know if the squirrel is blind.  I will grant you that a weaker player may be stronger in certain areas than a stronger player, I just find that those who pontificate the strongest on these posts are sometimes 1300 level and below.  I just want to put things in perspective.
