If you click on "Find a member" under members, and enter your friend's name in the search for a member box, you should see the profile. (I just did it a few seconds ago to see if it worked, and saw a diazdelao from Afghanistan.)

In my case, the registration process was almost instantaneous.
Anyway I typed your nick under the section Members/find a member, and I was able to view your account profile just a few seconds ago.

great question! you won't actually be found on the PLAYERS list until you have played a game! there are many people who are Chess.com members but who don't actually play here. but yes, you can always find them by going to the MEMBERS link in the top navigation!
