you don't want you kids to be able to see a persons "fake" avatar?
so basically, You're worried that someone could pose as say Celine Dion
and be like....
"!hey I'm Celine- ever heard of me?! gimme $20USD and I'll send you an autograph....."
so first rule of having your kids on the internet should be to Not talk to strangers and don't be believing what Anyone says, unless you (the parent) see it first.
that would work on chess.com and it would work on chessKid.com
why doesn't that work?
can't you just tell you kids to come on here, play chess and Not to care too much about how says what....
no Daniel, don't be silly!
its all innocent minds that have to be protected for people who are fake, I mean who ever heard of a "mischievous kid"?
kids must be innocent and gullible right?
I have seen posers here steal photo albums off of the internet and post them on chess.com. Most of them are men pretending to be young girls. It is pathetic.
On another note, would you be kind enough to let us know what could be done in order to stay away from/avoid such users who post derogatory pics totally intended to ingratiate the society. I do not wish to have such people in my list as my profile is accessed by my kids too.
Can you please clarify what you mean by "derogatory"? If the avatar is not family friendly, then - as for any other objectionable content - you can report it the Support team via https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/emails/new and they will almost certainly remove it. Again, however, this does not prevent it from appearing in the first place, or persisting until a Support or Moderating team member acts on it - that would require some sort of verification process or waiting period before any picture could be used, and I'm afraid that the site just doesn't work that way at the moment, either in the current version (V2) or the next (V3). You could suggest it in the Site Suggestions & Feedback forum category, but it would be unlikely to happen in the short or even medium term.
Hope that helps - cheers!

I do believe that by Gynko's own admission...In his statement above. Is in violation of Chess.coms terms of service by sharing his account with his children. Be aware that sharing accounts or allowing access to your account could have your account suspended or even closed.
However the wording that he used is a bit vague. If by his children having access to his account means that they have their own accounts and can see his once online. The solution would be for him to hide his friends so that no one can view them.

Actually, that's a good point - you should create separate accounts for your children, as multiple people playing games from the same account distorts the rating calculations. If they are just playing unrated games occasionally, that's probably ok. But really, for minors ChessKid.com is best - it's only as they are getting older and are perhaps looking for stronger competition that they might perhaps look to start playing games here on the main site.
Is there a redundancy package?

Woah! I am disappointed by the fact that a good samaritan is being blamed for reporting a member with fake profile. Instead of acknowledging the same, people like you have actually gone to the length of accusing the said samaritan of violating the terms by interpreting his words in a different light altogether. However, I would like to explicitly claim that my account is not accessed but my profile definitely is. And thats what i had said earlier.
It is my humble request to you to not demotivate the people who want to do something good for the community.
“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything” - Albert Einstein
... and even more so by the people demotivating and sabotaging the efforts of the ones who take action.

Thanks David. Will definitely keep that in mind.

It is a fake profile using a stock pic of a model from the net. Chess.com staff members please take action. Fed up of such fake profiles on this profile. They could prove to be detrimental to the image of this site.
Wait. Let me get this straight. Do you mean that people really use profile pictures on this site that aren't really them? No way!! So Calamondin is probably not really a keyboard playing kitty cat? Someone please get me a beer and a sedative. I feel I might start to lose it any minute.
ok, I admit it. I'm not really a grey pawn either.
No, no, no Cheeky. Out of 15 million+ members and Staff, Calamondin is the ONLY exception. I've played in her band.
ok, I admit it. I'm not really a grey pawn either.
Drat! I was going to try to tempt you with promotion. : foiled....
So mean to say that the chess.com community wants to clearly state that everyone is free to put up a profile pic of any random celebrity and no action will be taken against him/her whatsoever.
You, sir, do realise that you are setting a dangerous precedent for all future issues arising due to your above mentioned declaration.
I used to think that chess.com had certain guidelines which protect the community from such malicious practices. It is highly surprising to know that you have decided to taken no action despite providing proof regarding the same. It saddens me to the core to know that the site is no longer safe for children and I would not be advising anyone to join the site due to your blatant ignorance of such issues.
Fake profile Member name -
Chess.com does not allow impersonation of other people. but putting up their photo as your avatar does not constitute "impersonation". Posting messages or adding other details to your profile to try and make it look like you are actually that other person does, but none of those things have been done to that account.
I fail to see the link between this and the safety of children on this site - having said that, the moderators can only do so much and there will be instances where unacceptable content persists for a little while before a moderator gets to it: if you definitely want to protect a child from any such images, Chess.com has actually set up a separate address where this is most definitely the case - ChessKid.com!
Thanks!
Thank you David for suggesting ChessKid.com. I had never heard of it before and upon checking it out I have to say its pretty good.
Also, thank you for citing the views of the site with utmost clarification. The previous reply by Mr. VintagePawn made me feel as if the issue is being disregarded and berated which provoked the aforementioned rant.
