Request for Help: Banned from Discord Server a Year Ago — Looking for a Second Chance

Hello Chess.com team and community,

I’d like to sincerely apologize for a situation that occurred about a year ago. I was banned from the Chess.com Discord server due to a word I used that I genuinely didn’t realize was inappropriate at the time. Once I understood the issue, I deleted that Discord account out of respect for the rules and community standards.

Now, after a year, I’ve created a new Discord account and wanted to rejoin the server with a fresh mindset and respect for the rules. Unfortunately, I still can’t join — and my sister, who just recently started playing chess and has never been on the server, is also unable to join. This makes me think there may be an IP-based restriction.

I did reach out to Discord staff/support, and they mentioned they need the username of the banned Discord account, which I’ve now provided. I completely understand the importance of moderation and community safety, and I’m not asking to bypass any rules — just hoping to be considered for a second chance.

If there’s any way this could be looked into or if any further information is needed, I’d really appreciate your help.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

Hope you are able to resolve the issue. Looks like something that deserves the attention of a moderator or whoever controls the activities about which you are asking to be given a second chance for.

Only certain moderators and staff handle the Discord channel. I forwarded it to them earlier.

Are you able to log into other Discord channels?

If so, then the issue is isolated to chess.com's discord channel.

That can be for multiple reasons. Again, can you or can you not join other Discord channels?

Hi js6wks,

I hope you are keeping well.

As per our previous conversation unfortunately we can only unban an account if we are given the username of the account that was originally banned. You could try to reach out to Discord support to see if they may be able to assist you in locating it.

Thank you, and sorry for this situation. We honestly would love to help, but unfortunately, this is a limitation beyond our control and a function on Discord's platform. If you can locate the correct username, please reply through the original ticket or through our DM, and we can get you sorted then.

Warm regards

Richard

Your best bet here is to look through some old mails send by discord the often include your username otherwise the mods will have to look up IP bans and manually match your current account tag to that IP which is just a hell lot of a work so i doubt that they will do that
