opera >>>>>>>>> firefox 3 >>>> safari > ie

Use opera. Much better and faster, and more reliable than firefox 3 (Safari is just terrible to use)

I have tried all four major browsers for extended periods, and imho Opera is the best performing by a fair bit.  However, it has this long-standing problem where if you resize the text and scroll up and down a page, weird artefacts get introduced into the text.  For that reason, plus the grab-and-drag extension for FF, I have switched back to Firefox.  It's *almost* as good as Opera in every other respect, and has the edge in some other ways.

Appearance-wise (and I mean the way pages appear, not the way the application itself looks), Erik's earlier comment about Safari is right.  Safari does a really good job of presenting the pages to you the right way.  However, for Windows it is just waaaaay too slow, both in terms of initially starting up and loading pages.  It also lacks a lot of features, or they are hidden away (e.g. restoring previous sessions).

I'd reccomend trying both Opera and Firefox.  Both are good, and highly customizable (though obviously FF being open source has way more options in that regard).

I've just ditched firefox 3. Every time I wanted to run something with Java, it'd have a hissy-fit. Also, I got into some weird problem where upon closing firefox, the .exe is still on, munching up CPU, and I had to close it through task manager every time. == so I've picked safari. No gestures (which I'll miss dearly ._.) and it isn't the most beautiful browser everywhere, but at least it works. xD

I may try Opera sometime again, but the first time I tried it, it was merely a CPU-eating hyped up version of IE. >_<
