WOW THATS A BLAST FROM THE PAST! I OWNED THE PAR EXCELLENCE BACK IN 88! I DONT KNOW IF ITS STRONGER OR WEAKER THAN THE OTHER PROGRAM YOU MENTION, I WOULD ESTIMATE THE PAR EXCELLENCES STRENGTH TO BE AROUND1900 IF THAT HELPS!

As I recall, Sargon 3 on slow hardware (like 8088) was about 1750 USCF (officially). I had Sargon 4 and on my old 8086 it was about 1700 by my estimate.

It's hard to place a real human-like strength on these old silicon opponents. Once you got an idea of what it was capable of you'd adjust in ways that you couldn't with a human opponent.

The foremost example would be the endgame. You could be dead lost and enter the endgame and end up winning as the machine was typically lost at sea.
