I'm not familair with the Debian GNU/linux system so I can't offer any help.
One very small suggestion, which probably won't help... from what I've read, SCID is no longer being maintained. But a fork of Scid still is, called "Scid vs PC."

The interface has been slightly redefined and compared to SCID there are many new features. You might have better luck with this program, assuming it is available for your preferred operating system. I've been in touch with the author a few times, and he might be able to help you.

Hello. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum for posting this message. I am trying to install SCID on a Debian GNU/linux system. Evidently, SCID uses LaTeX for some printing/displaying. I have LaTeX installed on my system and installation of SCID will result in deletion of hundreds of megabytes of my LaTeX distribution. I wanted to know if others had encountered this problem or had suggestions on resolution. Thanks in advance.
