Should vacation be changed?

I think that most of us can agree that the current ways of dealing with vacation are not as effective as they should be. I propose several changes as a compromise to both sides. #1. Decrease maximum time vacation can stack. this would make it so that the people who use vacation in order to not lose a game have a decreased time they can stack their vacation. Besides, the limit is so high right now, no one needs that much time unless they are trolling or they are going on a super long vacation. but I would content that you should not be playing daily chess if you are planning a month long vacation. #2. Increase the rate of accumulation. That way, people who actually is use vacation when they want short breaks can use it without it running out so quickly. #3. Limit what you can do on chess. com while on vacation. This would further limit the people who pause their games to save their rating. #4. Eliminate auto vacation. Sometimes players become inactive while playing daily chess and their account auto vacations, forcing all their opponents to wait a month or two for them to move #5. Add an option to apply for vacation. If a player can prove that they are going to be "off the grid" for a certain amount of time, they should be able to contact chess to request game pauses. Notice that this would not apply to people just relaxing and choosing not to move, but it would instead apply to people who were say: Camping somewhere with no internet. I would highly recommend the addition of one or all of these suggestions.

It is possibly true that many free members resent the vacation benefits given to premium members.  However, Chess.com is a business. The ability to forget occasionally about your games and have them automatically continued seems like a big premium membership selling point to me.

I see that you timed out on 11% of your recent games. That would keep you from playing any new tournaments- if you played tournaments.   (I see you don't.)   Some people willingly pay a few dollars a year so that they can occasionally forget to play their moves and yet still play tournaments. Maybe it doesn't affect you.

There are undoubtedly times when vacation is abused. There are hundreds of threads about that already.  https://www.chess.com/forum/search?keyword=vacation+abuse

People get all bent out of shape about it.   I don't know how big a problem it actually is. (Chess.com hasn't published any statistics about vacation use that I know of.)

/ How could you prove that you had no internet?   Sounds like a lot of work for chess.com with no benefit to them.

I guess you have a good point. My 11% time out rate is because I frequently go camping for a weekend and occasionally forget to turn on vacation. These changes wouldn't really help me a lot, but this seems like a good compromise based on what I've heard from others. I also agree that #5 may not be super practical, but I still have four other suggestions
