Strange iPhone App Occurences - getting kicked out

Sort:
chessarx

I have noticed lately when using the app to play 5 minute games when I start a game as white that occasionally, after making my first move and then hitting the submit button --

My iPhone screen turns black and returns to the default home screen on the phone. It appears I am practically "kicked out" of the app completely.

After I open up the app and submit a new game request:

1) I sometimes get matched with the same player

2) I get matched with someone else

I know I am not aborting the game and there is no way for me to tell if my opponent did.

I would like to know if anyone else has also been experiencing this and if there is a way to avoid it. I believe I have the current version installed.

Can I get some more info from you? Sounds like the app is crashing, and your info could be very helpful to the developers.

-What version of iPhone are you using?

-What version of iOS do you have?

-What version of our app are you using?

-Do you log in via username and password or through facebook?

Thanks!

Ive had this happen before also. The app crashing - not being paired with same opponent afterward though. It has happened to my son a couple of times on the chesskid app as well.

It doesnt happen to me a lot though, so I didn't take much notice. just reading this post reminded me...

Here are the answers to your questions:

-What version of iPhone are you using?

Iphone 4s

-What version of iOS do you have?

I believe 8.2

-What version of our app are you using?

Version 3.0

-Do you log in via username and password or through face-book

Via username and password.

Thanks.

Like blastforme stated, it happens occasionally.

Hello, staff. This problem has another issue. Games in which I am kicked out are recorded as losses via resignation with zero moves in the game. It is affecting my rating as a consequence. Not that I care too much about my rating but if it happens enough times, my rating will drop to a point people will think I am a sandbagger, lol

The developers found a bug and believe they have resolved the issue. Can you let me know if it keeps happening?

chessarx

Thanks I will. Can you tell us what the bug was?

chessarx

The problem is still occurring. It happened 5 times in a row last night and also infrequently. As I mentioned, it only happens when I start a game as white, make my first move, hit the submit button, and voila!! I get kicked out of the app. Losing ratings points (although it doesn't happen every time) for this is also a lousy deal. Thanks.

Okay. I thought that it was the bug in Live Chess that he developers discovered but perhaps it's within the iOS app itself. I'm going to reforward your info to the developers. They'll either have an immediate solution or they'll work on resolving it in the next update.

chessarx

Thanks. If no one else is reporting this, maybe it's my phone lol. I plan to update it iOS soon and that might resolve it. Thanks!

chessarx

I updated my phone to the latest iOS. It was fine for a while but the same problem has returned.

Apparently this bug is related to moving quickly as white while using the submit button. We have a fix that we're waiting for apple to approve. In the meantime, you could try playing without the submit button (you can turn it off in your Live Chess settings) or try moving a little more slowly. Apologies for the inconvenience! Thank you for your patience.

I was dropped in exactly this way a few days ago twice in a row. No moves had been made, I was white, and the app crashed when I pressed submit on the 1st move. they were both 10/0 blitz games.

I was using the new IOS app on an Iphone 6. I reset my iPhone (because that's the only way I know to reset the app). It worked fine after.

Thanks! I just wanted to let you know that I kept note of when it was happening and learned that getting kicked out happened most often when I made my first move and quickly pressed submit.

However, each time I waited a bit, maybe five seconds, then made my move and used the submit button, more often than not, I did not get kicked from the app. My findings match yours.

I haven't been kicked out as white since I waited a bit to make my move so that is what I will do. Thanks again.

@ blastforme -  I installed the latest ios and it appeared to resolve the issue for a short while but I started getting kicked out again, and I think it was from moving to "fast" lol. If it happens to you again, just wait a bit before making your first move.

Further observation has revealed that if you are having this issue of getting kicked out of the app when playing with white, do not make your move until you see your clock start to count down. So far, if I wait for the clock to start, I don't get kicked out of the app.
