Wow - that is very old ( the latest version is 2.3 ). Very weird. If you go to this url

www.chess.com/mobile/bin/www.chess.com/Chess.com.jad

in a normal browser and then browse the file ( with notepad or whatever ) you should see a line like:

MIDlet-Version: 2.3.0

Then try the same url in your browser and see what happens. If that doesn't work on your phone try this:

www.chess.com/mobile/bin/www.chess.com/Chess.com.jar

OK, well I have uninstalled the app, cleared the Java midlet runner cache, uninstalled the midlet runner, cleared my browser cache, reinstalled the midlet runner, and reinstalled the app, from the first of those links. It still reports invalid data, and version 1.2 (in the about box).

.jar link does the same.

OK, some success at last -

deleted the .apk from the sd card while mounted on PC, then pointed G1
browser at  www.chess.com/mobile/bin/www.chess.com/Chess.com.jar

I guess the .apk was being cached for some bad reason. Clearing the java runner cache (from Manage Application) alone didn't do that.

Anyway, it's working again now.

Ok this is still unchanged. I download the jad, run it, and it tells me there is a newer version, and the server is sending invalid data.

Also the browser version seems to have stopped working with the G1 browser, in the last week or two. I can select a piece, but when I tap on a destination square it fails, and in the process appears to try to select a large number of squares - a brief perimeter is drawn around most of the squares of the board, I think containing all the pieces.

I've followed all the steps shown but still can't get the application to work.  I can load the app 3 different ways, either type in the .jar address in the browser, click the app icon, or open the java manager and click on the chess icon there....I get the same result either way.  It will open and allow me to log in, but then I get the "server sent invalid" message and it shows no games pending, plus it tells me there is a newer version of the app.  But when I go to the menu and "about" it says I have version 2.3.

All of this is also on a Google G1.

It's the same for me on a Samsung i7500 (Android).

Been broken for ages..

Yes it's not working for me any more either.

Legith

Seems to be a caching issue with the conversion service not recognizing the update...

I've managed to make a version (named Chess.com24) to work, the apk can be gotten here:

http://sandbox.devnull.name/mobile/Chess.com24.apk

[Update: http://sandbox.devnull.name/mobile/Chess.com26.apk]

What I'd like more is a wiget on the phones desktop

Legith's apk works on my G1, but I'm now hitting the "25 moves per day" limit despite being a premium member. Is this a bug in the latest version of Mobile Chess?

EDIT:

I see that my Gold membership only qualifies for 25 moves/day. Is this limit also applied to the iPhone app?

In case you haven't noticed, there is a chess.com app in Android marketplace.

Can't seem to offer draw or resign with it, but it does have tactics trainer.

And there is a 'watch videos' function, but it downloads them first.

I dont believe any of the available chess.com mobile applications ( iPhone, Android, Java, Palm Pre ) can run on your ZTE.
