I've had several situations where the Tactics trainer penalizes me for doing a checkmate combination in an alternative order which works just as well as the "correct" one. I think equivalent combinations should not be penalized!
If it is truly equivalent, then it can be reported. There is a link on the puzzle to do that on the website.
But many times, what is seen as an alternative, isn't or takes additional moves to complete, due to the opponent having delaying moves. In that latter case, it could still be reported and they may modify it to the last move in common.
That said, in general, the solutions always look for the fastest and most forced mate. And the system was only designed to accept one line.
