Tactics Trainer Bugs

Eric,

There appears to still be a serious problem with the point fluctuations within this program.  Yesterday I noticed but thought I was 'imagining' things but this morning I have confirmed there is definately some funny business going on.

I most recently solved a puzzle and lost about 140 points....lol.

I know you and your staff will resolve this in a timely manner but just wanted you to know the problem remains.

Regards,

Hydra

P.S.....can I have my points back?

Jay told me that it wasn't a bug.

 Here's the quote from Jay:

"We realized that there has been a slow degradation of player ratings due to the starting rating of 1200 which drags the problem ratings down over time. To boost this, we increased problem ratings and treated user ratings as if they are inaccurate and adjust faster so people can quickly recompensate upwords. So, yes, we're aware of this issue, but thanks for mentioning it. :)"

I think you won't have your points back!

you may have lost points due to how long it took you.

Yes, you can have your points back. Just get a few problems right and the points will be added back to you. :-). In all seriousness, your rating gets to the right level over time.

ok well I will just be patient and see if it is me or the system.....and thanks Loomis for the humor

Well, I'm both very weak and very slow so my TT rating is pretty low. Embarassed  I really don't care about the rating as long as I'm having fun and improving my skills, but I must say my curiosity is piqued over my latest point totals.  In my last 11 problems, I've been correct 9 times, however only once did I actually receive positive points.  Even considering my slow play (I'm at work so many of these actually did not take me that long) it seems strange that I keep dropping when solving problems.

Oh, well, like I said...it's very fun (addictive, in fact) and I'm definitely learning so I'm happy. Smile

 Thanks, I missed that.

It seems to me that a person who has solved over 2500 problems shouldn't have a rating that fluctuates wildly.  One day I'm at 1700 and the next I'm at 900.  That is a huge amount of recompensating.

I've learned to ignore the rating system as it is now.

It shows "Failed (-1)" but actually substracts about -400.

After  "Passed (+65)" it substract again about -400.  Then I checked the list of recent problems and found the "Failed (-4)" problem #30376 that I never tried.

Hello ! I've noticed a new problem with tactics trainer. I went over past problems I had failed to see if I remember the solution:

- I open the problem from the 'recent problem' list

- I click the 'try again' button ; I replay the problem and solves it (I've learnt something - yeah Laughing)

- when I close the problem window and my tactics trainer page refreshes, the problem has disappeared from my list of recent problems ! I would expect it to stay...

Great find. This is now fixed.

I have had my rating fluctuate in tactics trainer too.  one day, it dropped to about 1300, but after I focused again, it rose back up to over 1800.

I think that isn't really a great indicator of your playing strength, and the tactics you are presented are within a hundred points or so ofyour tactics rating, in an attempt (I believe) to ahve the trainer provide skill tests at your level - whether you are at 800 or at 1800 or at 2400.

fail four or five in a row, and drop over 200 points, no sweat.  solve 8 in a row, and jump 200 points.  also no sweat.  *(I haven't noticed anyone complaining about that and asking for Jay to remove some points because they 'guessed lucky'.   haha.)

BorgQueen, that was back in May 08, yes, sure glad it is fixed.

lotsoblots, the only one you did quicker than average time and got right was the one you got points for, the rest you took longer or got it wrong...? i suppose you should still get points for taking longer than average...
