Tactics Trainer question.

When you finish TT problem, you see a list of themes, such as Hanging Piece, Mate in 3+, or Interference.

What happens when you give them a thumbs up/thumbs down? How can you get rid of bad themes? What happens when you suggest a theme?

Here is a quote from chess.com about it

"The tags are associated with the puzzles through a voting process. Vote for a particular tag by clicking on the "thumbs up" icon, or by selecting a tag from the "Suggest tag(s)" drop-menu. You can vote against a tag by clicking the thumbs-down icon. As more people vote, the tags grow smarter and more relevant.

A premium membership is required to vote for tags. For each puzzle, you may vote only once for a particular tag, but may vote on as many different tags as you like."

I hope this helps :)

I think the tags should be checked by strong players, such as 1800+ USCF/FIDE rated, to make sure that the tags are correct. For example, when a problem ends in mate, but the defender/computer had a chance to give up a whole lot of material to stop it, people give the problem 'Mate in...' tags. It's not forced mate, and that kinda bothers me.

Anyway, when the tags are voted up/down, how many votes does a tag need to be removed?

Once again, you forgot to say "regards, retguvvie98"

I think it would be better if you could only vote for one particular tag. Otherwise, you end up with the situation that we currently have for the videos, where each video has so many tags associated with it that searching by tag is practically useless, because there are tags that almost every video has and they don't work as a filter.

By restricting it to one tag that you feel is more appropriate to each problem, you'd lose some descriptiveness since many problems will involve more than one type of tactic, but you'd gain a lot of relevance in being able to search by tag, since you'd end up only with those problems where it is the primary feature, instead of thousands and problems where it might be tangentially involved with a bunch of others in some way.

I thought, before you deleted your posts, you gave the impression that this was the kind of thing you work on?

Y_Ddraig_Goch

OK, it's helpful knowing that you're not involved in that and only review some of the tactics, but it certainly gave me a different impression when I first read the posts that you've now deleted. It's not "idly posting in a forum" to present the idea to the right person when they're actively participating in a forum discussion on the topic, but it's helpful to know you're not involved for future reference.

@Goch

Well, when there are tactics where there are many themes, there should be a theme like maybe "Multiple Motifs" or something of that sort.
