tactics trainer

I also noticed this..
I was around 1300-1400 and dropped very low in a few days... I'm now at 550 and it's hard to get back up.

I've given up on even looking at that rating--it doesn't seem to reflect any real level of competence or difficulty. Also, I feel that the timer puts an arbitrary limit on my analytic skills.
Personally, I wish there was just a tracking of a success/fail ratio, not a translation into a "rating". And it would be nice if the timer could be personally set to a value of my choice--faster, slower, or not at all.

Can someone please post more details on this problem. What I'd like to see is specifics about what problem you failed or solved (what was the problem Id), how many rating points you lost, and how many correct moves you got (and a guess at what your rating adjustment should have been.) I'm looking at logs and database and everything looks in order. I need some examples of potential rating adjustment errors.

I would prefer to get rid of the timer , and just have a certain ammount of time available to solve the puzzle , if it is solved within the time limit you get full points instead of the partial points you would get now

Huh, pretty funny. I was noticing the same thing. The funny part came when I noticed a severe drop in my score on TT but a marked rise in recognizing tactical opportunities in my real games. I just figured, who cares about my rating on TT, as long as I am playing better chess.
However, recently, TT has begun to demoralize me a little.
Thanks, everyone---especially those of you on the staff. This is great.
