my opponent's time suddenly change from < 1 minute, a few minutes later when I refresh the page it became 22 hours without moving  anything, below I attach the picture. Is that because of auto time out protection?

I think bcs. your opponent is a premium member therefor he gets an auto vacation when one of his games has too little time left.

Yes.

Your opponent cannot keep up with the number of games he is playing so auto-timeout protection is invoked. He is charged 24 hours of vacation.

If at some point before a true 24 hours have passed your opponent returns, the extra vacation time that was deducted is added to game time.

Basically the site is enabling the overburdened players. "In a negative sense, enabling is also used in the context of problematic behavior, to signify dysfunctional approaches that are intended to help but in fact may perpetuate a problem."

Thank you for your explanation, so after the auto time out protection (e.g: 24 hours) has up, will there be any other auto time out protection again? for how many times?

Auto-protection will trigger every time a player is low on time (~1 hour), as long as the user has vacation time.
