Timer in blitz kept adding seconds

I was playing a regular 3 min. blitz with no extra settings, I had a major disadvantage but major time advantage, in the last 10 seconds of the game, my opponent kept gaining 2 seconds after every move I made and I lost... pretty pissed off, what gives???
Was it a “3 | 2”? Other then the last few seconds you will not notice.
