Are you sure that another device isn't connected to live chess?

yes

click" home" to reset things

Any phones or tablets you were using might need to be logged-off, rather than just close/switch off the device.

Could be, or a window open "underneath".

Can you tell us how you fixed it?

No name change happened.

Members can change their username once via their 'edit profile' page.

I know how I fixed it; and I will actually share the answer with folks instead of stringing them along:

Just close all open browser sessions; clear cache, history, etc.  Reload chess.com, sign in, and go to the page for making a name change.  You should have no problem doing it.

Its on this page

[select settings, all settings from the lower left side tool bar, and then profile]

It allows people to change their own username. The system will only allow one name change regardless of clear cache :)

Yes; but there is a separate error not related to the number of changes that prevents even the one change.  It is the error that was mentioned in the OP and for which the solution I posted should work well.

Oh,i think it is too late for me to post this.

I fix it through this method.Even you never enter live chess page and play, you are consider a live chess user since you logged in the first time to it.

So,you just enter the online chess page and logged it there, then you're registered as online chess user for now until you mkae your next log into live chess.

I wonder if staff of chess.com can solve this bug ?

I've tried all the suggestions (reloaded page, pressed "Home", deleted cache and history, restarted browser, restarted COMPUTER, logged in from different places on the site) and I'm still receiving that same annoying "live chess" message. Can someone on the staff help me change my username? please :)

Theres a way to fix this problem:

On right hand top corner, hover on "home" and click account. Then click "online chess settings". Then check "PAUSE MY GAMES! I'm on vacation" button and also check "STOP! I'm NOT available for challenges or tournaments!". Now again go to profile and change your username. After changing it, don't forget to uncheck these boxes again!

I've tried everything posted here, including pause/stop/vacation option, and still can't change the friggin' username. It just doesn't work, every time I get that error that I'm logged on live chess while I'm definitely not.

What the hell is wrong with this site? And - assuming that this works for some people - why allow only *one* name change?

Just a guess.... is it possible that you are not logged off with some other device? a phone or a tablet, perhaps.
