Virus!

The ad network that accidentally provided the bad ads that contained viruses have been notified and have removed the ads.
We are also no longer working with those ad networks.
Members should not be receiving any more alerts. If you are, it is likely an issue on your own machine and you should be using the appropriate software to remove the viruses, but the issue with chess.com ads should now be resolved.
If you're unsure about computer maintenance, please see this page

I have a Dell running Windows XP with a router firewall using Firefox and AVG. AVG popped up a warning about Neosploit Toolkit (type 779) just now.
I didn't think of doing a screenshot but if it happens again I'll post it.

I don't have a screen shot as I dealt with this issue before looking for others that might have encountered it... So...
Tonight while playing on chess.com I saw a java runtime popup appear and clicked okay by accident. After that I had an "antivirus" program appear in the task bar and begin a scan. Additionally when trying to ctrlaltdelete or get to taskmanager I got a popup telling me taskmanager was infected.
I immediately shut down and booted into safe mode and ran my AV program which found nothing. I deleted some junk entries that were put into the boot up that I saw in msconfig. I removed those entries from the registry. I also deleted all files created on my computer from the point in time it happened onwards. I cleared all my temp and cache folders. etc.
I was able to boot up and seem to be running okay now after all that. But I haven't been to any other sites on my PC recently and I believe it may have come from this site.
I see above that someone posted that the ad networks with malicious code were removed but this makes me doubt it. I hope chess.com can fix this issue soon. I really don't malware.

I don't think it should really help in tracking it down, but I run Vista Home Premium and Chrome to browse this site.

target9000 can you message me the following if you can recall it please;
Was it within the first few pages of being on the site when this happened or had you been surfing the site a while during that login time?
Any idea which ads were showing on the page at the time ? advertising what?

I'm not entirely sure which ad it was but I do remember I had been on the site for a while. I went to the "Live Chess" to play blitz chess and before I was able to get into any games a java popup "Do you want to run etc etc?" came and I clicked run stupidly without reading it assuming it was the blitz chess app.

Chess.com has a virus! Please get rid of it.
I know, my computer had no viruses & as soon as I started playing at chess.com, my Norton found two viruses on my machine on consecutive days. One was wmrr74340.exe (Trojan.Zefarch!gen) and the other was hamburgaler[1].exe (Trojan.FakeAV!gen32). I'm not 100% sure they came from chess.com, but very suspicious!!!
You might be thinking of those pop-unders. Get rid of those, please, for free members :) Either sound OR pop-ups/unders, but please not both.

My recommendation is to stop using Norton. Seriously.
Norton is the KING of false positives, and routinely scores poorly in tests run by independent parties. Your best bet is to download AVG, uninstall Norton, reboot your computer, and install AVG.
Glad to be of some help, thanks for the quick response!
