Weird Formatting in the "Post Your Reply" box

This is probably getting way too esoteric and/or anal retentive but does anyone understand how the formatting works in this box? For instance when I initially typed in some DB results for a Team Vote Game as follows

5.Nf3       5192 games  61% (W)  Av rating 2210

5.Bd3       473 games   60%                      2125

5.c4         100 games    62%                     2304

5.other     196 games

which initially got posted as follows (and this is only a very minor example)

5.Nf3      5192 games  61% (W)  Av rating 2210            5.Bd3       473 games   60%               2125   5.c4        100 games   62%                2304

5.other     196 games

I then typed it out again in Notepad (which has almost no formatting options compared to Wordpad or any other WP) and pasted it back in to show up as I initially entered it

So what's up with stuff getting re-formatted and not looking just like what was originally typed out? This problem seems to be common for entries that are "spaced out" as above - ie appear to be in a column format.

Many years ago when I used Word Perfect WP it had an option to show all the "invisible" commands (ie bold face, italics, font size, paragraph indents etc) which was really handy to deal with when unexpected or unwanted formatting got carried over when I cut and pasted stuff into a WP doc.

I won't bother getting started on all the problems I've discovered in posting blogs with pictures and/or diagrams (esp when cutting and pasting entries into the blog) and how confusing that gets when the genie inside here re-arranges stuff to insure it rarely gets posted the way it was originally typed out with pictures and/or diagrams not ending up where they were originally placed, often resulting in the text being non-contiguous and hard to follow
