After the standard opening of Nimzo-Indian, Rubinstein Varation:
1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. c3 Bb4 4. e3 O-O
The Opening explorer shows 10,341 games that continue with 6 Bd3, 5339 with Nge2, and 5129 with Ne2. Those last two moves are, obviously, the same (since the other knight is pinned).
This makes no sense.
(FWIW, Lichess and chesstempo both have a ratio of about 2-to-1 in favor of Bd3, which leads me to believe that the correct number in chess.com should be in the 5000's).
The Explorer looks at positions and one ply later. So the ones that have the option to move the pinned knight are ones where the night was moved there to block the check.
The Explorer is not looking at move order.
