Every so often a post like this comes along asking about points. I think when the site started the creators had ideas about awarding and redeeming points; however, I don't think any of that ever happened.
The OP earned a point for creating this topic, and I'm earning one by replying to it. But, 50,000 points won't get you anything. They can't be redeemed for anything.
So, someone with a lot of points is very active in the forums and blogging. Someone with very few points tends to play chess and maybe reads blogs and forums without replying. It's all good either way . . .
Alas, the glory days of a free T-Shirt have passed us by.

You can trade points in for site bonuses, like getting extra time in a game or muting someone you don't like
