What does points mean and how do you get them?

Diakonia

You get points for participating:

Posting in the forums.

Answering forum questions.

Etc.

Hitchy04

Oh right but what are they used for?

Nothing.  Just measures how active you are on chess.com

Hitchy04

Oh ok thx for the info

Diakonia

Youre welcome, and glad to help.

I literally laughed out loud at this. The site should offer free premium membership for one year after a certain amount of points earned. Costs them nothing, and gets people more involved. Otherwise, what's the point? (Pun intended.) 😂

Hitchy04

Haha

GM_chess_player

you can get them by posting in the forums.

Eseles

You get them also from notes and VC comments - i think anytime you post something in a public space

And I've heard that at the first stages of the site, you got a t-shirt or something for reaching 1000 points

Yes, I think that was true. Points used to equal prizes sad.png

GM_chess_player

Also from participating in stuff .

TC2304

Well I'm not a particularly active member and I have over 3000 points...

CookedQueen

Points is a count regarding specific things, depending on the context the points are counted up.

Any more pointless questions, feel free to ask me directly without being bothered by all the wrong answers. You can count on me wink.png

GM_chess_player

No, actually they are worth something. If you get more than 1,000 points you get a free t-shirt. (you use to) So you see , points are not that pointless.

[EDIT] Looking back at my old posts, I found another thing points are useful for: to tell whether you are active or not

Example: You wanted to talk to your opponent about that exciting game you guys played. You check the points: if it's 0, then you shouldn't say anything, because you know that person won't respond. But if the person has a decent amount of pts, say, 1000, then you know he's active and will respond.

Actually per definition points are always pointsless. Only the context they are used in can have points or sometimes are pointless, like pointless questions and the pointless answers here for example.

aglitatta

The amount of points  you have only indicates how much time you wasted by posting new threads or topics and responding to to them. This time should have been spent on either playing games and studying.

aglitatta

   P.S. Im no exception.

aglitatta

Incidently Ive just earned 2pts for the above posts.

Eseles

I would tell you how many points I have, but it's better to take a look by yourselves, so that my profile views number goes up, looool grin.png
