What happened to the feature that allowed you to guess moves on other people's games?

Yes, it's being removed if it hasn't fully been at this point.

Why?! Why do they make changes no-one requested, and downgrading the user experience, instead of making changes everyone calls for? (Such as being able to save analysis with arrows [that's just a tag in the PGN!], etc...., and so many other really needed, and simple to implement improvements...) Really sad... :-( !

My understanding is the feature wasn't used a lot and is one reason it was removed.

it's because people only find out when they spectate a game and accidentally move a piece

Yes, it should be easier to find it

That's not a legitimate enough reason for me. They could have easily used that update to make people more aware of the feature (they do a great job in letting us know about new bots)and if there were little to no change then pull the plug on it. I'm very disappointed and.

it should just be an option that you can turn on and off in the settings, no need to remove it. very sad that it's gone sad.png

There was no way for most people to know they could guess a move and now the feature is gone. But they have resources for confetti after wins and seeing each other's boards for no reason. The experience is so cluttered with useless additions.

It would be great to get a vote or poll from users what features are actually important to them instead of just randomly changing things and hoping it works.

You would imagine very intelligent people work at chess com but don't have the sense to ask their clients what they want before removing something like that

The site has metrics on how often things get used so can tell when tracked features are being heavily or lightly utilized.

Staff sometimes do solicit direct feedback on features as well but there are multiple, conflicting opinions in many things and it's not possible to give everyone exactly what they want. Add to that the site has specific goals and projects that may not always align with what some members like.

Still was a terrible decision. If you have people paying for memberships, you should at least try to seek out more user feedback.

I'm willing to bet that the feature was used plenty. It didn't conflict with any other features and had way more potential than most features exclusive to the site. I don't see the point in removing it, if the devs wanted to improve the spectate feature they should fix the analysis glitch that makes you have to refresh the page because it won't let you go back to the live game. It's annoying when cool stuff like this gets removed but pointless things like having a seperate page for "chess rankings" and "top chess players" (they are the exact same thing, just group them together) isn't touched.

As I understand it, the code was being rewritten (fully new version and not just an update) and the amount of usage the feature had wasn't sufficient to rewrite the feature into the new implementation.
