A draw by repitition needs to be claimed. Click on the "draw" button to claim the draw.

lol we just posted pretty much the exact same thing at the same time. Even the wording is pretty much the same.

Then again, that's pretty much the only way to word it.

Petitioning to the staff to rename the thread title to something amusing.

Personally I like "what the beans".

All right, here is my serious answer.  I don't think it is an easy problem to deal with since it is common across many chess sites.  Even when put into an intro, an accessible set of rules, or even in a faq, people still end up asking the "why not a draw" question very often.

The only way to really solve the problem is to teach every person who is starting to play chess the very basic rules of drawing (whether it be by FIDE or USCF standards).  Then with all the people available it would be in the collective conscious you could say to where the rules are understood.  So if you had a chess site, all you would have to do is declare what set of drawing rules you follow.

But ultimately this is all wishful thinking and I do now expect things to change regarding the issue.

32) Qe2+ would probably have won the game for white in post #3.

Looks like black will still lose his rook on g8, and white may not get caught in a perpetual.  But I didn't look closely, so I could be mistaken.

Some say that hydrogen, stupidity, and (perhaps the lack of knowledge for how to claim a draw) are the most common elements in the chess.com universe.  Sorry.

zborg

Hydrogen and Stupidity are the two most common elements in the Universe.

Chess.com, notwithstanding.

CLAIM the draw shouldnt the engine be smart enough to guess it's a draw and just give it to u ?how many codes do u think it should be written?huh??

only 1

Yeah i have to agree as i have been on bad end of that draw rule.

Not getting caught agains as i was too lazy to read the rules. When i started playing the draw rule was 21 moves.... that is what i was taught.

ivandh

I still think we should have an automatic FAQ thing that pops up when someone tries to start a thread with certain key words in it.

royalbishop

50 moves is way too much time. When it can be done in under 21 moves.

The material reason for a draw is ok.

That 3 repeat rule in postion rule is .........

There is a pretty high abundance of irony here as well.

That's cause they're called horseys.

What it is that you are funning at the expensive others' feelings about the draw that was not claimed. Laughing

royalbishop

Yes, draw by repitions  have to claimed ..a claim draw.. button appears

at that time and u have to claim the draw..by clicking it ..same side

where resign etc buttons are situated..yesterday I claimed a draw like that..

my opponent was having 4pawns and rook to my 3pawns and rook, pawn on d6 with support of K and R and my K on d8 but my R check fm 2nd row

made him vulnerable..unable to avoid check to the K and ultimately

instead of offering draw I claimed draw by 3 moves repititions as he

could not leave the K away fm the pawn..

Out of curiosity is it against rules to claim a draw after game?
