When is reporting appropriate? - Chess Forums

Hello, I was going to submit a ticket with this question but I couldn't find a good place to do so. Since everyone will see this, to preface I am very new to chess but getting better SLOWLY lol. I just wanted to make sure that if you report someone that it is investigated be it by AI or a Mod before the user would see anything negative happen. It's just strange to me how people can be terrible then wait a LONG time then make a perfect move. Seems suspicious but it could also just be them thinking too. I'm not trying to be a jerk but "git gud" isn't working for me since this is the only place I can play chess.

TLDR:

If a report against a user is made are they not punished unless there is proof or likelihood that they are smurfing/cheating? I have gone against several people that seem to be better than their league dictates but I myself am too inexperienced to know that for certain. @~@

I appreciate you, but I am finding it difficult to tell when I should or shouldn't report people. For instance, when someone takes a really long time to make a move after making several reckless moves then they make the perfect move, I suspect them using a program for that move since a friend of mine told me that's a thing. But in reality they could just be thinking and way better when they slow down. If I report a person in this situation, is it appropriate? Or am I just being a baby/jerk? ... This is really embarrassing to ask about...
