why is Chess.com giving so easy puzzles?

Why I chess.com lately giving me so low rated puzzles? It didn't use to be like this. It's no fun getting +5 +5 +5 +5 +5 -27... Since if I concentrate I get almost all correct I have increased to my highest ever puzzle rating but this have killed all the fun. Something is wrong here.

Yes! I'm having the same thing. Not getting any puzzles rated higher than about 1400, which has artificially pumped my puzzle rating over 2400. Kinda fun, but I'm not learning. Please fix!

There's a new Difficulty setting. You should change to Hard or Extra Hard.

The setting can only be changed in the website currently but impacts puzzle selection on the apps as well.

Doesn't that make the rating kind of meaningless if the puzzle difficulty is based off the difficulty you select? I have the same issue I went from 2300 to 3400 in a few days.

The difficulty only changes the range of puzzle rating compared to the member's ratings. Standard tends to be lower rated, on average.

I set my difficulty to extra hard, yet I only get puzzles in the 2400 range. Don’t know why this is happening.

The site re-rated all the puzzles on the backend but the UI hasn't been updated yet to show the new ratings yet.

That change should be coming in the near future

The "extra hard" rated puzzles are maybe somewhat higher rated, but not much more difficult, what makes the difficulty setting look silly. Additionally, the ratings you gain or lose are pretty much the same. Both issues are not related to the puzzle rating being displayed incorrectly, which you pointed out.

Talking from my perspective here, not taking into account users with an equal rating get differently rated puzzles. However, I have seen many users voicing the very same issues.

Simple solution for chess.com: -1000 off each puzzles rating. And use algorithim to make more puzzles (like lichess does). That way when you reach the echelons you don't keep getting the same puzzle. Prevents those people from having nonsensical 2^16 puzzle ratings.

Just use chesstempo. Lichess puzzles at high levels are extremely unnatural and computer-like, they don't teach themes. They are essentially useless to humans. Chesstempo puzzles tho are free and unlimited.

So basically chess.com broke rated puzzle in two different ways in the same time... Feels sad and made me lost joy of puzzles and also loosing pride I had for my rating.

Yes that makes rating meaningless. If user can choose difficulty of the puzzles the rating became unobjective and have no sense anymore. But chesscom do not understand that. I think they even do not now that many users don't like these new setting.

This change has completely ruined the tactics. I am set on extra hard and still only getting mate in one puzzles. The ratings are meaningless if i am getting 95% right without learning a thing..

My rating has gone up 1500 points in the last four days or so. That is obviously stupid, can we please go back to how it was. It was fine before.

Yeah I reset my puzzles rating until it is fixed.

If you want it ‘back to how it was,’ you can change it in SETTINGS, just like @Martin_Stahl said.

The first time you join chess.com they give u easy puzzles but if you open your third account the puzzles will be harder
