Why Was My Climate Change Thread Locked?

I mean, it's all very well to quote rules but they are meaningless unless examples of what is ok or not are to hand. Otherwise it's a matter of interpretation and personal opinion as to what's incorrect. That's why Sludgey has a good case.

Chess.com is not a Democracy with the ability to appeal to a higher court. Chess.com is a business and they can run it any way they desire; they are a Dictatorship with all power and authority to run the platform in any manner they desire; they can do whatever they want and Sludgey has no recourse. Other than what Sludgey posted, I have no idea what they said or did, but someone at Chess.com pulled the plug, and that's that.

No, they can only do what they are allowed to. They can't just lock a thread because they feel like it.

Okay. You win. Let me know when and why they unlock your Thread.

Well, I've heard that the thread should stay locked. It was said that the thread stated up front a requirement that posts stay away from politics, cursing and religion but failed to moderate posts that did not meet that standard.

I did moderate some of the worse posts. And there is no reason my thread should have been locked without a warning.

i think justbefair is correct here. it did not appear you were stern enough evaluating posts and warning others that went over the line you stated in your op.

for example, i have a topic about guns that i dedicated to another member here. a topic that *some* might see as a vehicle to express their political views. i made it clear in the op i would do as much as i could to make sure the topic was not locked due to their tos violations. if you were to read through it, you'll see i was forced to slap some on the wrist for posts that could get it locked. worst of all, i had to block a few, and i abhor that.

if you start a topic where you know some might post about religion/politics, better make sure you moderate it yourself with more of a heavy hand than you currently have, even if that is not your nature.

Good luck.

Because it was full of dangerous lies (misinformation). We are destroying the planet and we need to stop lying about it and do something.

I just learned a new word.

But this is probably where Tyson goes

No, both of them said climate change is a hoax. One of them is a troll who says things he doesn't believe, and the other is a child.

There is a disclaimer in the first post.

There is probably going to be quite a bit of disagreement on exactly what are "lies" and "misinformation". But probably full agreement that both are being used.

No we aren't destroying the planet. This exact type of extreme drama queening and hysteria is why I started the thread, to bring back common sense to balance out the extremist and alarmist ideology. "Dangerous" lies..absolutely ridiculous.

I think it just had some insults in it from people. Why are people arguing about it so much though in this forum?

AbyssalSludge

I have created a new thread until the other one gets unlocked.

EndgameEnthusiast2357

I saw it, I've basically given up on the topic though as it is nearly impossible to ever avoid mentioning something p0litical. The site may issue discipline if they see we keep creating more and more threads on the same topic.

I just recommend to not talk about politicians.

False equivalence.

OK. But I've not heard of anyone disagreeing. Would you agree that lots of lies and misinformation are being used?

As this thread comes to a long and whimpering death, I'd just like to know why anyone would come to a Chess.com and want to talk about climate change? I think the world is being destroyed, but I go to other sites to read and discuss that subject. I wish Chess.com was free from some of the outside political rants so that we could all simply focus on chess and have some fun.

No doubt sooner or later require another reserve thread or version 4. Much unconscious bias within this site as life generally.

I note a couple of the you/your brigade already landed in the new thread including @diog , others will follow.

Yes a difficult balance for the op, if blocking apparent trolls like @diog tends to ends up with a one sided thread.

My guess is because that's just how life works.

When I play golf maybe 25% of the conversation is about golf. Probably less. The rest is everything from politics to potty training. I don't think it's very realistic to expect chess.com to limit conversation to just chess.

Good point. I've played golf in the past and had great conversations on the course with my friends.

However, I have never seen anyone throw a tantrum on the golf course about being called-out by course officials for violation course rules; nor have a I seen any group of golf players have a tantrum on the course because someone didn't want to engage in their discussion.

lfPatriotGames

That's true. I haven't either. But I HAVE seen some pretty violent tantrums. Some people take things way too seriously.
