Just figure out which pawns are vulnerable at the start. Protect them especially as black since white goes first. I think it is usually good to push pawns in front of rooks and the queen since they are defended. Follow opening principles after that... develop your knights before your other powerful pieces if possible. Conversely, try to attack your opponent's vulnerable pawns, you can pick up a rook and a pawn for just a bishop. Here is an example: https://www.chess.com/game/live/16043084187
